Haley's Blog used for course Technology for Teachers is

In class after learning a concept the proffessor asked students to blog about what they learned. Students were required to comment on other classmates blog providing thier own thoughts.

Blogs are a great way to have students share their thoughts and knowledge on a topic. Blogs also provide peer review and feedback. Teachers can use blogging for a variety of learning areas and lessons.

The ISTE NETS and performance standards (2008) that creating blog posts best connects to is Standard 4: "Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility", substandard: 4c "promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information" (Internation Society for Technology in Education, 2008, www.iste.org). When utilizing blogs in the classroom children are writing about somthing that interests them or summzrixing something they learned. By using blogs students learn ways to communicate thier thoughts and ideas with their peers, teachers, and parents. By commenting on other peers blogs students learn how to properly communicate appropriately.

Title : ISTE-NETS-T

Hello!
s a prospective teacher it is important to integrate the new and growing technology into the early childhood classroom. Technology can enhance the areas of learning and lessons in the classroom. A successful teacher needs to be always developing ideas, methods, and theories. By using technology, teachers and other professionals can interact with one another and share similar practices and thoughts with one another.
In any classroom, it is essential to implement and integrate technology into the classroom and into the learning areas/centers. All children can use technology at a young age; in my future classroom, I feel that technology is an important aspect in the learning environment.
The standard that I feel is the most important in an early childhood classroom is standard 2: designing and developing digital-age learning experiences and assessments. In this standard, teachers incorporate technology tools into the daily learning experiences and learning contexts. Substandard 2b: states that teachers should “develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.”

Technology in the classroom can enhance language, reading, science, and many other content areas. In order to provide a developmentally appropriate classroom that utilizes technology teachers need to keep in mind the importance of the placement of the computer in the classroom, various software selection, teacher interaction, and teacher training and support. Teachers need to be well educated and aware of the new technology in order to introduce it to the students. When teachers get to know the technology they are going to introduce, they can have a better understanding if the content and material is developmentally appropriate age and intelligent wise.
In my classroom, I will introduce many technology strategies throughout all areas of the classroom. I will allow time for children to openly explore and manipulate technology. Some technology items that will be available to students consistently are cameras, computers, calculators, scales, and audio/visual recorders. By allowing time for children to explore technology openly, I will create an environment that is open and inviting to technology. Also by making technology an aspect in the classroom, it will encourage children to become curious and participate with technology. Children need the opportunity to openly experiment and explore technology in various ways.
My goal in an early childhood classroom is to provide technology in all learning areas in the classroom. I want children to feel comfortable enough to openly explore and manipulate technology, making them curious learners. By knowing the technology myself I will ensure that the material is age appropriate and being utilized correctly. This course will better create a foundation for my technology in the teaching field where it is my responsibility to stay updated through my individual professional learning network and other professional development techniques.

Title - My Take on Sir Ken Robinson

In class, we were to watch two video’s on Sir Ken Robinson. The first video which really intrigued me was titled “Schools Kill Creativity” and the second video was titled “Bring on the Learning Revolution”. Both videos discussed vital education topics in today’s educational field.
The first video about Schools killing creativity is something that I have really noticed throughout my high education experience. When I was in elementary school in Western New York, the teachers encouraged being your self, expressing yourself through your work, and in the later grades I started to really feel the pressure of standardized tests. (May have to do with the NCLB movement). My art teacher is an excellent example of wanting the creative side of the student to shine.
Sir Ken Robinson stated that creativity was as important as literacy. I don’t totally agree with this statement, but I really really favor it. In the classroom the child should be completely comfortable to let themselves show in the centers they are playing in, the artwork they create, and the stories they write. Sir Ken Robinson talked about allowing kids to take chances, and fail, and not be frightened to make mistakes. I feel as if children do not learn how to take chances and fail, they will not feel comfortable with taking a chance and showing their creative side. It is important for teachers to encourage the children in the classes all day/every day. Children need to know that everyone makes mistakes, including the teacher, their parents, and grandparents (even if they don’t like to admit to them, they make them). No one is exactly right 100% of the time.
Through 7th grade to 12th grade I took many art classes. My art teacher taught me that it is okay to be goofy and silly in the classroom, to be creative and be yourself when you are working on your art. My art teacher also taught computer technology and graphics courses that I participated in. The teacher introduced a topic, in adobe, office, or any other graphic program and then would allow students time to manipulate the new topic on their own for awhile. After time has passed, the teacher would talk around see what the students played around with on the software and what they created. She encouraged feelign comfortable enough to make mistakes and need to ask questions.
In my classroom, I want to have great teaching ideas, including using my own creative skills. I feel as if being creative also is going to come as the years and experience accumulates. Thanks to the Internet, fun and creative lessons plans are all over. In my classroom, I want to encourage the students to be comfortable in the environment, by practicing skills, and exposing them to multiple experiences. I feel as a teacher it is my job to integrate creativity in the important lessons that these students need for standardized tests. Important skills can be learned in a creative learning environment.

Title - Cyber School Opinion

In class on Wednesday we watched collaborative power points that groups put together to inform teachers of the technology uses in today’s classrooms. While watching the power points I considered how each topic would be affecting my early childhood teaching career; I was surprised how interested I actually was. I caught myself sitting there applying the new knowledge to strategies and ideas for my preschool or kindergarten classes. However I am going to blog about a school wide approach that I have kind of have always leaned away from the idea and another interactive learning environment strategy.

Cyber School is an online form of education that students can choose to participate in rather than public or private education. Cyber school is done primarily online. After watching the presentation on cyber school my opinion has changed some. I have always questioned the social skills that children would be receiving while taking their education online. But with social networks students can get to know each other and teacher on a personal level. Cyber Schools typically have discussion boards for students to interact and ask questions to one another pertaining to assignments. I think that cyber schools are definitely a must need situation for students who just cannot get along in the public school system, complicated home situations, and a variety of other reasons. I am more open to the cyber school idea but still have many doubts.

Something I still am concerned about with cyber school is that the number of public teachers is going to become lower, and that is not good for the educational field. I do not want to necessarily have to compete with someone for a public vs. cyber school. I also wonder if the salary for a teacher is different who is a cyber school teacher. I am also still concerned with students being able to get around the system with cyber school. I have personal experience with my best friend signing into her cyber school and going to sit in the living room and not doing anything. I have heard of people just using papers they found online and submitting them and getting a grade. I am afraid some students without parents who are encouraging them to participate in the system will not work as hard, not get as good of an education, and not actually working for the grade. I also wonder if cyber school is preparing students for the real life world, bullies, socializing, working together, and time management.

I also was interested in the video conferencing idea for high school students. I took a few agriculture and technology classes through the distant learning center at my high-school. It was a great experience because I went to a small school that didn’t offer many programs and was offered more of a variety. My school also offered advanced placement classes through distant learning lab. Through video conferencing we met new people and got to see them face to face and socialize with them. I also thought an interesting idea was taking virtual field trips to see places you might not ever get to see.

I thought the presentations were all very informative about possible actions to take place in my classroom in the future. I liked that they opened up my opinions especially of cyber school. I think that if I had to be a cyberschool teacher I would still want to encourage my children to be crative and incorporate creativity into my online classroom. I would want the childs personality to shine through in their writing and in the creative art projects.

Two google docs that were shared by me

Plant Life Web 2.0 Tools Word processing handout Teaching with digital Tools Map (Digital Writing in the classroom) I think having the students share assignments online is a great way to allow for children to open up assignments anywhere. When students share their assignments with the teacher online they can also access them anywhere and see when the child worked on it or opened it. Google docs is a great addition to the classroom. The point of creating and sharing google docs is an assessment tool that teachers use. According to Bloom's Taxonomy the teacher would be using the documents shared as a way of evaluating: assessing what the students learned and need to be exposed to more, choose which content to teach, and decide how to manage the classroom. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
